It is recommended for yachts to motor the final 3nm of the river on the rising tide and favour the outside curves of the river.

The channel is marked and dredged to a minimum of 1 mtr below Chart Datum (lowest tide).The river bottom is soft mud. The tidal range is 2 - 3 mtrs.

The marina is between an "opening-on-demand" bridge, and just before a small bridge, so you can’t miss us!

Foreign Vessels

Whangarei is a port of entry and exit for overseas vessels at Marsden Cove Marina which is situated at the entrance of the harbour.

The Customs, Immigration and MPI Bio Security (Quarantine) are known to be very pleasant and helpful.

On land

By car – Once in town just follow the brown signs to Town Basin, Quayside, Whangarei. It is a two-hour drive from Auckland, 1 hour from the Bay of Islands

By plane – Air New Zealand flies into Whangarei airport.
